Wilson welcomes Phoenix Gas option for Whitehead consumers

East Antrim MP Sammy Wilson has welcomed plans by Phoenix Gas to extend the gas network in Northern Ireland to Whitehead. The plans in place mean that work should begin on a pipeline from Carrickfergus to Whitehead in November, with natural gas available to customers in the spring.

The MP said:

“I am pleased that Phoenix gas have made the decision to extend the pipeline to Whitehead, which will make natural gas available to an extra 18 000 homes in the town. The £2.4 million investment will benefit the construction industry and give more choice to people in Whitehead as they decide how to heat their homes and this can only be welcomed.

Phoenix Gas are hoping that the necessary planning applications should only take weeks and so work can begin in November and completed by next spring.

I give my full support to the project and look forward to consumers in Whitehead being able to avail of natural gas.”
