Wilson pledges to do his bit for British Armed Forces
East Antrim MP Sammy Wilson has pledged to do his bit for the British Armed Forces family. Sammy Wilson made the pledge on The Royal British Legion’s campaign website, www.timetodoyourbit.org.uk.
The website features the charity’s general election manifesto, which sets out the following priorities for the next Government:
1) Improve and keep the Armed Forced Compensation Scheme under continual review.
2) Stop breaches of harmony guidelines (deployment rates) in order to reduce family separation and breakdown.
3) Provide bereaved Armed Forces families with independent legal advice during inquests.
4) Introduce and Independent Advisory Committee on Military deaths.
5) Make NHS priority treatment work for veterans with injuries caused by Service in the armed forces.
6) Tackle poverty among older veterans and widows.
Kevin Shinkwin, the Legion’s Head of Public Affairs said:
“We are really grateful to Sammy Wilson for pledging to do his bit. The entire Armed Forces family needs the support of politicians from all parties and our manifesto outlines practical ways the next Government can help.”
Sammy Wilson said:
“I am delighted to support the Royal British Legion. They play a key role in highlighting the needs of the whole Armed Forces family. I have pledged to support their top manifesto calls and if elected I will continue to stand up for the armed forces.”
