Sammy Wilson visits Corran Integrated Primary School
Sammy Wilson visited Corran Integrated PS on Friday to see the current state of the school building and meet with the pupils and teachers.
The East Antrim MP was keen to discuss the new build for the school which has been eagerly anticipated for many years.
Mr Wilson said:
“I would like to thank the principal, Denise McFarlane, for inviting me to the school and for showing me around. It was a pleasure to meet the teachers and pupils, and it was good to see the great work being done there despite the temporary facilities that they have.
I am disappointed at the lack of progress which has been made in regards to the new school build. We have been expecting a decision to be made for the last seven years. I know that parents, teachers and pupils are fed up with the endless reviews and studies that have taken place while money that is available for new build drifts away.
It is not acceptable for the Minister to allow these children to be educated in sub standard conditions and this drift must come to an end. Unfortunately this appears to be the attitude that she is taking towards many schools in Northern Ireland, and we have seen the same procrastination happen in regards to Mullaghdubh Primary School, but it is now time for her to be decisive. I look forward to a decision being made on the school so that building work can commence as soon as possible.”
