“Wilson: Greenhouse gas reduction will increase electricity prices by 25%”
East Antrim MP Sammy Wilson has said that Government plans to cut greenhouse gas emissions will result in a 25% increase of electricity prices.
The MP said:
“We have already seen huge increases in our electricity bills over the last few years however the Government is still willing to press ahead with these emission reduction targets despite the huge increase in electricity bills that will result from it.
It is irresponsible to press ahead with these targets as they will present further financial challenges to people already struggling to cope with the rising cost of living. We would be sacrificing the wellbeing of our personal and national finances for a reduction in emissions, despite the fact that there is no conclusive evidence that greenhouse gases are a major cause of climate change.
I welcome the news that the Chancellor is considering enacted measures to help people cope with the increased cost of putting food on their tables and heating their homes. However what would be even more welcome would be an end to this obsession green taxes and enacting measures than will further drive up the cost of living.”
