“Wilson calls for Government to scrap 2p fuel increase”
East Antrim MP Sammy Wilson has called upon the Government to scrap the proposed 2p increase in fuel duty from October.
Mr Wilson said:
“The high price of oil is a heavy burden to many people as it is driving up the cost of both fuel and food. The last thing that people need this winter is for the Government to add to their bills by introducing this increase.
Northern Ireland is particularly vulnerable to high prices because of our distance from the main fuel markets, and I ask the Chancellor to take this into consideration and scrap the proposed hike in tax.
We already have one of the highest rates of fuel duty in Europe and this increase will only help us to secure this title and make an increasingly unpopular Government even more unpopular.”
