“MP visits Larne High School”

East Antrim MP Sammy Wilson visited Larne High School on Wednesday, following a request from a year 11 class to come and speak to them about democracy and citizenship. Mr Wilson was only to glad to accept the invitation, and came and answered questions that the pupils had for him. Topics ranged from the importance of voting, to facilities for young people in the town, and the benefits of devolution. Following the visit, Mr Wilson said: “It is very important that young people know about and understand democracy and citizenship, and I am very supportive of classes such as these which make pupils more aware about these topics. Since they have invited me to their school, I have also extended an invitation to them to come and visit Parliament Buildings, so that they can see for themselves more about what our elected representatives do.” Mrs Erskine, the teacher of the year 11 class, said: "We greatly appreciated Mr Wilson's visit. It brought the Democracy in Action part of the course to life for the students and will be of real value to them in their studies. They are very much looking forward to visiting Parliament Buildings.”
